A Somali-born US national, identified as Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, was arrested in Portland, Oregon, on 26 November for allegedly attempting to detonate what he thought was a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) at a Christmas Tree lighting ceremony in the city. However, the bomb was a fake and had been provided to Mohamud as part of a long-term operation by US authorities.
